


The Art of Giving ![]() On Saturday, August 28th, winners of the Round Top Family Library's second annual Tile Art Class gathered at the Library for refreshments, and to receive their awards and accolades. The results of this Library program illustrate how so many people giving of their time and talents combine to create not only art, but a successful program for the Library that all may come and enjoy. The summer class, sponsored by the Library was taught by Bert Mayse, an award-winning elementary school art instructor from the Katy Independent School District in Houston. Winning tiles were selected by a judging committee composed of Bob and Elaine Burden, retired art instructors from the Round Rock School District, Gerald and Debbie Tobola, owners of the Copper Shade Tree Gallery in Round Top, and Kathy Johnston, advertising and graphic design company owner. Winners were judged on composition, use of color and the overall quality of execution. Back row Honorable Mentions from left to right are: Kaitlyn Pieper, Travis Davis, Ann Marie Baker, Ava Myers, Hannah Luedke and Samantha Davis. Each child received a cash award, given by Frank Johnston of Heritage Texas Country Properties. Honorable Mentions received $10, Third Place $25, Second Place $50, and First Place $75. Winning tiles will be permanently installed as decorative elements in the stone walls in the Library's Diane & John Grace Memorial Garden.
